Job Description

Hatch I.T. is partnering with Sitka to find a Head of Engineering, see details below:

Sitka is seeking a Head of Engineering with a passion for building high performing, diverse engineering teams and lovable products. This is a leadership position that will work closely with their executive team to develop the application, instill engineering best practices, manage their cloud architecture, lead system design and advocate for the engineering team in a way that attracts and retains top talent.

About Sitka

At Sitka they believe that EVERYONE deserves access to specialized healthcare. Founded in late 2018 by Founder/CEO Kelsey Mellard, their mission is to foster informed, effective, and trusted care delivery for all patients by every provider. Timely access to specialty care is often out of reach for too many Americans, often because of the inefficiencies of the delivery system. Sitka is reimagining specialty care by giving primary care providers access to network of specialist physicians. Sitka’s platform enables virtual consults on patient diagnosis and care between PCPs and specialists. With Sitka, patients avoid unnecessary specialist visits and receive answers in hours, not weeks, all while keeping PCPs at the helm.

Sitka’s women-led leadership team has decades of experience in medicine, technology, policy, and product to help address what they already knew to be true: the current healthcare system deserves thoughtful innovation. In addition, their investors are leaders in investing in early stage healthcare companies. Most recently they closed a Series A round of $14 million led by Venrock.

Sitka is committed to bringing a diverse and inclusive team together focused on solving specialized healthcare.

What makes you a great fit for the role

  • You are mission driven and see the potential for changing healthcare for the better through the application of data and technology, especially tech-enablement of complex clinical workflows.
  • You have a healthy distaste for the current state of healthcare and want to make an impact by applying your technical and people skills to healthcare.
  • You are a magnet for talent and have built and led high-performing teams of engineers (and data architects, and devops, etc).
  • You (and your teams) are comfortable being upstream in new product development, meaning comfortable with ambiguity and discovery, avoiding pre-solutioning and used to being part of collaborative, diverse, cross-discipline product development.
  • You have built secure, observable cloud platforms with requisite automation in healthcare or a similar regulated industry. You are fluent with cloud technologies including stack selection, containers, automation (CI/CD etc) preferably in an AWS/Python/REACT/PostgreSQL environment.
  • You are a strong communicator both vertically and horizontally across the organization, being an advocate for engineering best practices while also inspiring the team around the goals and mission of the company.
  • You are obsessed with delivering business value and creating an architecture that supports product flow, agility and parallelism of work but you also understand real-world tradeoffs in a high growth environment with a knack for sharpening tradeoffs that need to be made by the business.
  • You have demonstrated experience building elegant but complex workflow applications used in B2B environments, preferably in healthcare. You are a hands-on technologist and can “scale down” to engage with the team as needed but also can set a vision and let the team operate against goals without micromanagement.
  • You are a student of SDLC methodologies and best practices and can tune your approach to the business context.
  • You love coaching and mentoring your team and growing careers. You have high EQ and are a curious listener, and motivator of people.
  • You can operate effectively in a 100% remote environment while maintaining cultural excellence and high employee engagement.
  • Not your first startup rodeo: You have worked in dynamic, fast-paced environments where everything is “the first time this has been done.” You are not afraid to roll your sleeves up where needed.

Requirements

Responsibilities Include

  • Managing the software engineering life cycle and ongoing improvements to improve value delivery to the business.
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement across all engineering domains.
  • Identification and recruitment of highly qualified team members.
  • Lead devops/SRE and cloud operations of the business.
  • Ensure compliance with security and privacy requirements including continued SOC2 compliance.
  • Increasing the yield of the team through the right architecture, team organization and processes.
  • Champion an agile SDLC including lean principles for pushing business value quickly to their partners. Bonus if you understand concepts around Product Flow (Reinertsen).
  • Communicate effectively across the organization – including to non-technical teams and vertically across leadership and the team.
  • Serve as the leader and mentor who will set the tone for the team, instilling accountability, setting clear metrics and being an advocate for engineering in the management team.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, product and clinical teams to deliver the best possible solutions that customers love.
