About The Role:
HSI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solutions Architect for Wearable Computing & Instrumentation and Soldier Systems – in particular in the area of wearable electronics, including power and data management and distribution, sensor systems, communication systems and AR/VR/MR technologies. As a Solutions Architect, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and delivering cutting-edge wearable computing and wearable electronics solutions that cater to their Defense and Commercial customers. Your expertise will be vital in driving innovation, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the successful implementation of Wearable Computing & Instrumentation and Soldier Systems market products and solutions. Responsibilities:
Work closely with customers to understand and inform their objectives and challenges related to Soldier Systems including Wearable Computing & Instrumentation, on-body Power and Data Management, Personal/Body Area Networks and AR/VR/MR Systems. Decompose complex problems and develop system concepts and solutions to inform and meet customer requirements.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy for Soldier Systems and Wearable Computing & Instrumentation, including defining research objectives, designing experiments, and leading research projects from inception to completion.
  • Identify funding opportunities and generate research proposals specifically targeted towards government customers, such as the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather required information and align proposal content with the organization’s strategic objectives.
  • Utilize your expertise to conceive and create unique Soldier Systems and Wearable Computing & Instrumentation products and solutions that address challenging real-world problems.
  • Design and direct the implementation of state-of-the-art technology in multi-function Soldier Systems and wearable electronics systems. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field and incorporate them into current problem-solving initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight throughout the system design, development, and testing processes. Ensure the appropriate level of rigor is applied to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, industry experts, and external collaborators to leverage knowledge, resources, and funding opportunities.
  • Identify and protect valuable intellectual property through patents, copyrights, and other means, ensuring the company’s competitive advantage in the Soldier Systems and Wearable Computing & Instrumentation markets.
  • Clearly communicate with customers, stakeholders, sponsors, prime- and sub-contractors regarding project progress, technical briefings, and high-level presentations.

Requirements

  • The candidate must be a US Citizen (preferred) or Green Card holder with an active Security Clearance and be eligible to support special access programs.
  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset, eager to engage in technical marketing and contribute to business development efforts.
  • Showcase a track record of writing and winning technical proposals, especially for advanced R&D programs.
  • The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 7 years with a Master’s degree, or 5 years with a PhD in relevant fields.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and substantial expertise in Solider Systems and/or Wearable Computing & Instrumentation is required. Specific experience in Wearable Computing & Instrumentation, on-body Power and Data Management, Personal/Body Area Networks and AR/VR/MR Systems is desired. Familiarity with systems engineering and hardware/software design and development is essential.
  • Ability to create and deliver technical briefings to both technical and non-technical audiences, including customers and senior management.
  • Proven ability to survey literature and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Soldier Systems and Wearable Computing & Instrumentation to incorporate state-of-the-art solutions into current projects.
  • Experience in interacting with decision-makers and customers to understand their mission needs and translate them into effective end-to-end solutions.
