Job Description

The Director of Engineering Position at Human Systems Integration is a pivotal role within a thriving and expanding product development and manufacturing company. The candidate will be responsible for oversight and coordination of shared engineering disciplines and activities to meet current and future customer and company needs.
You will lead HSI’s talented engineering team, manage resources effectively, and oversee daily engineering operations while contributing to the company’s growth through R&D, strategic partnerships, and technology advancements. The position requires broad engineering knowledge and direct experience in Product Development and Manufacturing Technologies. The successful candidate must commit to excellence, through instituting and championing processes, instilling operational excellence, and driving continuous improvement. You will also ensure consistent use of the latest design methodologies to ensure future thinking, high quality, and on-time product launches. The candidate must possess excellent leadership, written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities: 
  • Prioritizes and delivers development projects on time, meeting internal and external customer requirements including cost, quality, and reliability targets
  • Alongside the PMO and Finance effectively manage resources, budgets, and timelines to meet project goals and financial targets
  • Provide strategic technical leadership in alignment with the company’s goals and vision
  • Drive innovation and technological advancements within the engineering department
  • Participate in technical decision-making, and reviews
  • Take a hands-on approach to understanding technical and design issues when necessary
  • Review work and projects for technical accuracy
  • Drive adherence to defined engineering processes and best practices while overseeing opportunities to improve processes for gains in efficiency and effectiveness
  • Demonstrate capability to lead a multi-disciplined engineering team, securing commitment and alignment across disciplines
  • Act as a strong advocate for our Customers, Quality Assurance, and Safety within the organization, ensuring each voice is heard and requirements are met
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain top engineering talent to scale engineering operations in support of company growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Admin. or a relevant related field
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in leading an engineering organization with specific experience leading new technology efforts from inception, through transition to manufacturing and fielding
  • Candidate must have strong, applied operational and project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple teams in multiple locations
  • Inspire, motivate, and empower employees to deliver organizational goals, while also delivering value back to employees and their professional growth

  • Must have the ability to methodically plan, prioritize, and delegate tasks, ensuring streamlined execution of projects
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing engineering processes, tools, and best practices
  • Must possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make effective oral presentations
  • Champions the process of change and promotes a culture of quick, agile adaptation
  • Experience working in a growing business environment is a plus
  • Must have direct hands-on experience with regulated work environments such as Government/Military/Medical and associated standards
  • Proficiency in continuous improvement methods and techniques e.g. LEAN, Six Sigma is highly desirable including skilled at continuous improvement Tools and Methods
  • US Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident
