About Upside
When Pennsylvania native Alex Kinnier arrived in Palo Alto to build Google’s large advertiser ad-server system, he saw a troubling news for brick-and-mortar stores. They needed a way to bridge the gap between online and in-person shopping. Working with his advisor, noted economist Hal Varian, and co-founder Joanna Kochaniak, Alex launched GetUpside (now Upside).
Consumers use the Upside app for everyday purchases, merchants use their platform to earn more profit without changing their business models, and as a result the offline world is made more efficient. And, it makes a difference for our communities.
Upside is known for its fun, dynamic work culture and its emphasis on their 3 key considerations: personalization, measurable impact, and mutual benefit. Upside is one of the most popular cash back apps on the Google Play and App Stores. They’ve partnered with tens of thousands of gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores. Their one-of-a-kind app allows users to simply scan their receipts (or Check In!) and earn cash back.
